Lauren Newell (Alumni Artist)

Lauren Newell is super psyched to join the Elysium family, officially. Although her husband, Patrick, has been the Musical Director for several of the company's shows, Lauren had her first as a company member. Lauren was raised in the mountain west state of Wyoming, and she spent her younger years singing country music for local bars, ranches, and fairs. She graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2012 with her BFA in Musical Theatre Performance. Some of her favorite roles include Sarah Brown from GUYS AND DOLLS, Babe from CRIMES OF THE HEART, and Zoe in the world premiere of RAINY DAY PEOPLE. She sends thanks and so much love to God, her wonderful husband, and her family!

Getting To Know... Lauren

Tell us about a transformative educational experience..

When I was in college, I had the opportunity to workshop and perform the lead role in a new musical. RAINY DAY PEOPLE was being written and composed as we were learning the roles, so it was an amazing opportunity to work with not only the typical production crew, but also the composer himself! I learned so much about my character as I was able to witness her incarnation from the very beginning!

What about transformative professional experience...

Shortly after graduation, I was hired to understudy the lead role for a regional theatre in Cleveland. All the performers in the show were equity, and all but a handful of them had performed on Broadway. It was so inspiring for me as a young actor to watch these people go about their business. They were who I aspired to be, and I learned what it meant to be a professional in this world of show biz.

Why I do what I do…

Someone once told me that what you think about within 30 minutes of waking up in the morning is a true passion. Performing and creating art has always been my alarm clock.

What about Elysium inspires you...

These people care about telling a story. They don't care about ego; they don't care about fame. They care about stories, and I love that!

My favorite "day off" event would be…

Zooming around the Wyoming mountains on ATVs with my husband, brother, and cousins :)

If I had one million dollars I would...

Pay off debts for myself and my family members, then fly my husband down to Argentina. He's always wanted to see the stars in the Southern Hemisphere.

Did you know ("fun facts" about you)...

I was born 100% deaf in my left ear, and the doctors have no idea why!
