Marcello Padilla is a graduate of the NYFA Musical Theatre Conservatory as well as Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City. He originally returned to his hometown (born in Santa Monica) to mount a workshop of Venice Beach The Musical which he co-wrote in addition to playing one of the leads. Other recent roles include The Beast in Beauty and the Beast at the Orpheum Theatre in DTLA, Mayor WOLF in the new musical RED, Billy Bigelow in Carousel, and Tommy Ross in Carrie: The Musical. He has 200hr teacher certifications from both Sweat Yoga and Yoga to the People, has completed the full improv track at UCB, and can otherwise be found teaching toddler swim safety, yoga, and the Afterschool Program at the Santa Monica YMCA. Marcello has been thrilled to reignite his love for Shakespeare while getting to explore with the amazing company at Elysium. Big love to my amazingly supportive family, especially The Captain. www.marcellopadilla.com @marcellopadilla
Tell us about a transformative educational experience.
I learned a lot at Stella Adler, including how to break down a script into actions. But the Meisner technique, as taught to me by Isaac Byrne at NYFA and in his wonderful advanced class after graduating, empowered and enabled me to let go of pre-planned moments so that I could truly listen and respond truthfully in the moment.
What about transformative professional experiences?
My most transformative professional experience to date has to be playing The Beast in Beauty and the Beast at the Orpheum Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles, pushing through difficulties and setbacks which included dislocating my elbow in rehearsal a week before performance, and looking out at the 2000 seat audience after having just nailed my main song “If I Can’t Love Her” at the end of act one, and knowing with more certainty than ever that acting and singing is what I am meant to do.
Why I do what I do...
The high I get from performing is like nothing else. There is a catharsis and a pure joy that is what makes my life worth living.
What about ECT inspires you?
I love how ECT encourages its company members to express their full truths and become better artists by committing to doing the work.
Where have you traveled? Where would you like to visit?
I lived in NYC for 10 years and have been to England, South Africa, Spain, Costa Rica, and all states except Alaska and Maine. I would like to travel to Italy, Greece and Asia.

My favorite day off events include exploring cool places (Central Park in New York, the castles in England, etc), eating good food, seeing a good show, having a good conversation with someone I love. And I love amusement parks.

If I had one million dollars I would be able to buy a new environmentally friendly car, my own place, and maybe even fund my own projects!
Did you know...
Did you know I co-wrote a full-length original musical with my dad? Complete with 29 songs.
