Maroon Stranger (Summer 2017)

Advice For Day One...

The theater opens at 9am! Go early.

Bring snacks!! And water.

Class sections are long, so if you have a hard time paying attention for multiple hours at a time, pace yourself with bathroom breaks or whatever you need to get through

You’re allowed to adjust the AC whenever, just return it to normal before you leave

If you work a full-time job and have other commitments, you will probably get more work than you can possibly do. It’s up to you to decide what to do, but do your best to at least make an attempt at all the work, so that you can have something to work on when class is building on what work you’ve done outside! Ask Aaron about the Weekly Crafting Tool, it’s really helpful for maximizing the efficiency of your time use.

The only way you can fail, at any given moment, is not to try. And even then, the only way to make up for a failure is to try in the next moment. Keep looking forward!

You are a good artist. That’s why you’re here.

Push your limits. This community is full of people who want to help you back up when you fall.

Go to everything you’re invited to that you possibly can- rehearsals, Cabaret nights, improv shows… getting to know this community and its artistic process will help you so much with understanding how all the tools and work ethic you will learn are practically applied, and it doesn’t hurt to make friends!

Approach everything you learn as a blank slate- you lose nothing by listening as though you’ve never heard music before. After you start applying a tool, you will naturally start to see how it interacts with the habits you’ve already built into yourself, and then you’ll have the option to keep or change old habits to suit the new ones, without any bias on the basis of “what’s worked”. These tools work, I promise.

Go the extra mile, but make sure you’re walking in the right direction. Check the map every once in a while. Don’t be afraid to ask a friend, a mentor, or a teacher.

Why are you here? Keep sight of that.
